Application to Plan

Application to Plan

Fantasy Island finally got around to filing for planning permission to carry out construction work; which had already been started during the winter off season. The development work had been occurring at the far end of the car park, and at the time we discovered it we were left guessing what was
happening. East Lindsay District Council paid the park an unexpected visit in February and didn't like what they saw. It became apparent that the park hadn't sought planning permission for the work.

Don't raise your hopes for anything too exciting to be appearing along the park skyline though. The plans reveal that the park are merely submitting their plans for alterations to the current car park. Basically, resurfacing, improving surface water drainage and reinstating vehicular access. Currently, the submission is at the consultation stage, and left unchallenged should be set to go ahead long after Fantasy Island's own scheduling plans.

Permission to Land?

Permission to Land?

Rumours of a further extension to the market began to circulate soon after we discovered development work that was being carried out on the main car park at Fantasy Island. It was speculated that the new development would be used as an area to sell fresh produce. Just as we might have thought that planning permission had sneaked through; it looks like we weren't the last to find out about this development. Simon Machen from ELDC, those responsible for planning and building control in the area, commented that “The stop notice relates to unauthorised works in the car park of Fantasy Island, including hard standings and associated drainage. There is no planning application in place to extend the market and no planning application has been received.”

The case is under investigation by ELDC; who are treating this as a case of unlawful development. The existing market and amusement park complex are unaffected by this development and are still scheduled to re-open next month. Conduit Leisure are remaining tight lipped. And who can blame 'em? They might have gotten away with it if it weren't for us pesky kids.

2008 Opening Times

The 2008 opening times have now officially been released by Fantasy Island. The season will open on March 15th 2008 until April 20th; A limited selection of the park will open between April 20th and 24th, then again between April 28th and May 2nd. The park will be fully open on a daily basis from May 3rd, until the end of the season. As always, the park recommend calling the rides hotline (01754 874668) to check available facilities. In the meantime, why not check out Island Quest's own Trip Planning advice?

The Eastgate Market will open its gates on March 1st on weekends. From March 22nd, it will then open on a daily basis right through to the end of the season. After which, the market will only open at weekends until Christmas.

Little has taken place in and around the park this off season. However, when the park reopens, we'll get out first glimpse of what renovation work has reportedly taken place in the pyramid. It's also speculated that this will be the last season that Absolutely Insane resides at the park. Whatever the outcome, be sure to make the most of 2008!

Insane and Impact News *UPDATED*

Insane and Impact News *UPDATED*

We have the latest news and updates on the two tower rides that have suffered a large amount of downtime recently.

Absolutely Insane has now been down for 8 months, with this downtime beginning in September of last year. We have been informed by the park on many occasions that they are awaiting a part for the ride, a part from US manufacturers S&S. It's been reported that there have been two wrong deliveries which has caused huge delays. The problem apparently involves the control panel systems.

The latest information that I have states that the cables are in the process of being replaced and that the ride should be operational this Saturday.

However, very interestingly and curiously the park have removed the caging that surrounds the seats:

Seat Cages

Volcanic Impact reopened in time for the May Day bank holiday weekend. However, unfortunately the ride still does not tilt has we were informed by the park recently. Fantasy Island have responded to this with the following statement:

"The tilting seat mechanism is still in place but at the moment it is again causing the problem that initially led to tilting being stopped. Sorry if this has caused disappointment amongst your members but rest assured the tilting seat option is something that the rides manager is committed to resolving within the near future."

Update: 26/05/2007: It appears as though Absolutely Insane is being recabled. This is a process which started on Tuesday, it is unknown when it will be complete. The carriage is in pieces also.

As for Volcanic Impact, this ride is down again. This time for the removal of the rails on the tower which control the tilt function. This does not mean the definitive end of the tilting function as it is possible that they are simply being replaced.

Millennium & Odyssey Reopen for 2007

Millennium & Odyssey Reopen for 2007

Both Millennium and Odyssey were open during the Easter weekend and being put through their paces. Both trains were reinstalled last week after the long winter, after a series of dry runs both coasters were ready for the busy weekend. No downtime was experienced and both remained open to the public throughout the weekend.

Although the park has been open for a few weeks already without these coasters running this is still a big improvement in comparison with 2006. Only Millennium Coaster ran last Easter, Odyssey did not reopen for the season until late May! This is an indication that the problems with the ride have finally been ironed out. The ride also managed to run in very high winds on Easter Sunday, something it has always been incapable of.

The same cannot be said for Absolutely Insane however, which curiously looks exactly the same as it did during the winter. Even more curious - the carriage wasn't removed for the off season as it has been in all previous years. Volcanic Impact followed suit and also failed to open. Both of these rides are expected to open before May.
