Post of the Month: September 2007

Last month, discussion brewed about the next ride that’s likely to be disappearing from Fantasy Island’s skyline. Speculation about the lack of attention being put into replacing the red lights on the top of Absolutely Insane’s towers leading to its demise, sparked debate as to whether the lights actually work or not.

Opinion seems fairly split on whether two of the three lights work or not, but this post from Sherman454 shed some light on the situation:-

“All 3 of them are always on. But the way they are designed you can't tell.”

Just one question Sherman454, if we can’t see them, what are the chances of a pilot?
Now, how many IQ members does it take to change a light bulb?

Post of the Month: August 2007

Is it the track, is it the train, no, it was the “super grease” that was allegedly causing Jubilee Odyssey to operate more smoothly at the beginning of the 2007 season.

Island Quest forum member; Stig said:-
“Perhaps the wheels need a re-greasing. I think a while ago somebody here reported that JO had been given super grease or something? Can't remember whereabouts I saw it though. It might have worn off by now.

After searching rigorously through the Island Quest forums, we couldn’t find any more super grease. Not sure how super, the grease is that Fantasy Island apply to their rides, but something seems to have made a difference. The park’s signature attraction has had noticeably less downtime this season, opening in higher winds and even rain than ever before.

New Forums features

New Forums features

As you may already know, the new forums are now online. And, they’re more laden with features than ever. Here’s a rundown of a few of the features that you’ll be using.

WYSIWYG editor
A WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor is now employed to make it even easier for members when composing messages. Some people find it difficult when they have to remember the coding when inserting multimedia or formatting content in their replies. Using the WYSIWYG editor, members can easily see and control how their message will appear when posted.

For example, when adding links or images, clicking the appropriate icon opens a pop-up window for the user to simply copy and paste the URL that they want to link to or the address of the image location. Hovering over the icons displays an alternative text tag which describes the function of the button. Handles are available on images too, so can be re-sized within the message window. The look and usability should be familiar to anyone who’s used a word processor, as the add-on being used replicates the controls found in the Microsoft Office software suite.

If you still prefer to use straight coding, as before, simply turn off the WYSIWYG editor or switch to HTML view. BB Code works as before, but HTML should be entered in HTML view.

Join the ever-increasing popularity of the blogosphere as now members can post their very own web-logs (blogs) via our forums. Blogs are diary-like places where members can share their thoughts and experiences about anything and everything. Your musings can then be read by others, who in turn can comment on the topic of your entry. Head over to the Island Quest blogs now to read what’s on other members minds and contribute by telling the community what you really think.

Forum Points System
Points are another new feature available on the new-look Island Quest community forums. The purpose is to create a reward system and add a competitive aspect to day to day forum use. Your points score will act as your overall score to how well you have contributed and played your role on the forums.

Your points score or count is displayed in numerous areas of the Forum. The most obvious being in your profile, but you can also find the count to the left of your posts just by your avatar, and also on the members list page. Find out how to gain points

Post of the Month
From now on, Island Quest will be featuring a "Post of the Month". The post might be witty, amusing, informative or something that is patricularly interesting. At the end of each month, each member of the Island Quest team will select their own personal favourite post of the past month. The winning post will be determined when a mutual decision is reached by the whole IQ team.

The "Post of the Month" will be featured on the main Island Quest website, and the winner will receive 100 points. At the end of each year, a "Post of the Year" will be selected from the winning posts of that year. A prize of 1000 forum points and a prize up to the value of £20 will be awarded to the lucky member.

What are you waiting for? Log your mischevious musings on the new look IQ forums.

If you have any questions regarding any of the updates, email Chris, Barry or Aly

Welcome Back: New Forums

The Island Quest Community is now back online! In the 4 days we have been offline, Barry and the rest of the site team have managed to transform the forums by upgrading the software and add some impressive new features for members to enjoy.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank members for their patience whilst we transfered to our new forums, however I'm confident you will enjoy the many benefits the new forums have to offer.

At this point in time, I would like to stress to members that there is no need to re-register as all user accounts and related posts have been transfered over from the previous forums.

The main structure of the forum hasn't changed that much however there is some noticeable changes, for example the User Control Panel; where members can keep more control of their account.

A selection of other new benefits are listed below:

- Ability to create a friends list.
- Reported/blacklisted posts util.
- Moderator control panel.
- User control panel.
- Ability to block someone.
- A utility to bookmark topics.
- Add attachment files to posts.
- A completely overhauled admin panel that offers more control over the board than the current.
- Quick search feature.
- Auto delete function of zero posting members.
- Cleaner interface.

Island Quest as a whole is near completion and to aid the growth of the site as a whole, when the rest of the site comes online it was felt that a new forums was required. The previous forum had various coding errors and operated using seriously outdated forum software.

Island Quest now boasts the latest in forums technology. Integrated into the forums are many new features including the Arcade Room, Friends List, and neatly organised sub forums which break down what used to be large forums into smaller forums.

These new forums represent our dedication in making Island Quest one of the most enjoyable and fun theme park guide sites to be part of. It also represents the continued investment into the site and brand and increasing the enjoyment our users experience.

So go on, have fun and get posting, as we may have brand new forums, however without you; our loyal members, this community would be nothing.

Thanks once again for your support. Enjoy your forum.

Kind Regards,

Island Quest
Forum Team
