Techno Jump Requires New Slew Ring

Techno Jump Requires New Slew Ring

In June 2008, Leisure Technical Consultants reported their concerns regarding areas of Techno Jump that had become cracked. This is due to the level of stress that is put onto the various components of the ride during operation.

More fatigue cracks were reported in April 2009, revealing a 50mm long crack found on the circumferential weld securing the base of one of the Centre Hub Vertical Columns. The full extent of the damage to the Lifting Cylinder Attachment Brackets was only determined when the paint was removed.

Leisure Technical Consultants are a third party company which specialises in inspecting rides for a number of theme parks and amusement parks around the world; including Fantasy Island. The park are therefore required to operate rides in accordance with strict safety standards and would not operate rides in an unsafe condition. Rides are serviced thoroughly on all occasions when necessary before being permitted to resume operation.

After ongoing monitoring of the affected components, it has been since determined that the slew ring is unserviceable. Therefore, the decision has been made for it to be replaced. The part is due to arrive soon. However, since the ride needs to be completely stripped down to install it, it can't be confirmed at this stage when the ride will reopen. More information can be found here and here.

Safari Land Train and Circus Convoy Removed

Safari Land Train and Circus Convoy Removed

The new synthetic ice rink which was opened at Fantasy Island last week is situated beside The Beast. Unfortunately, this has resulted in both the Safari Land Train and the Circus Convoy ride being removed and therefore unavailable for guests to use. A mini quad bike area has also opened beside the new ice rink. Aimed at the under 8's, it is another pay per ride attraction priced at 3 for just under thirty minutes. Introducing pay per ride attractions such as these devalues the benefits of the wristband promotion which was launched earlier this year. Fortunately, both the skating rink and mini quad bikes are only temporary attractions, but are expected to be at the park until the end of October.

Fantasy Ice-land

A synthetic ice rink is coming to Fantasy Island next week, offering guests the oppotunity to show off and perfect their skating skills. It will cost 3 for thirty minutes of skating, and the price includes skate hire. The rink will be available between September 4th and October 30th.

Such rinks are becoming more widespread across town and cities since the growth of interest in ice skating due to the popularity of television programmes such as Dancing on Ice. A similar synthetic ice skating rink recently opened nearby in Skegness beside the Pier, with plans to open throughout the year.

More information is available on the official Fantasy Island website.

Another Rave to be held at Fantasy Island

Earlier this year, Fantasy Island hosted a rave to celebrate Pleasuredome's 21st Birthday. Based on the success of the event, another rave is scheduled to take place at the park on October 10th. Tickets will be available on the door, priced at 25, however tickets can be ordered in advance from http://www.TheTicketsellers.co.uk from 20. Like last time, the event will be held across the park's bars and inside the pyramid, with a selection of rides operating throughout the evening.

More information about the event is available from Promise Land Events, or the Facebook event page.

Amazing Confusion Reopens

Amazing Confusion Reopens

Amazing Confusion reopened yesterday after eleven weeks of being unoperational. A drive pin was sheared earlier in the year, leading to the decision to replace them all. However, the ride remained closed for several more weeks, whilst the park were waiting on parts from Mondial. Confusion remained open late into the night last night, unfortunately the same can't be said for Jubilee Odyssey which still closed several hours before the rest of the park.

Thanks to Steve, St3ven, Martyn and Sherman 454 for posting updates to the Island Quest forums.
