Fantasy Island Re-opens for 2008

Today Fantasy Island opens its gates for the first time to budding tourists once again for the new 2008 season. This is the parks 13th season. Unlike promises suggested, no new attractions have been unveiled for this season. The park is now open until April 20th; a limited selection of the park will open between April 20th and 24th, then again between April 28th and May 2nd. The park will be fully open on a daily basis from May 3rd, until the end of the season. As always, the park recommend calling the rides hotline (01754 874668) to check available facilities, or to help maximise your enjoyment take a peek at our own trip planning pages.

Millennium has already been seen being tested recently, and the majority of rides should be ready for the Easter weekend at least. Reportedly, there hasn't been any work carried out within the pyramid, that had been predicted before the end of the 2007 season. It's also speculated that Conduit Leisure take control of the park completely during this season. So, it'll be interesting to see what, if anything, happens to the park over the coming months.

The Market has already been open on weekends since the beginning of the month. From March 22nd, it will open on a daily basis right through to the end of the season. After which, the market will only open at weekends until Christmas.

Application to Plan

Application to Plan

Fantasy Island finally got around to filing for planning permission to carry out construction work; which had already been started during the winter off season. The development work had been occurring at the far end of the car park, and at the time we discovered it we were left guessing what was
happening. East Lindsay District Council paid the park an unexpected visit in February and didn't like what they saw. It became apparent that the park hadn't sought planning permission for the work.

Don't raise your hopes for anything too exciting to be appearing along the park skyline though. The plans reveal that the park are merely submitting their plans for alterations to the current car park. Basically, resurfacing, improving surface water drainage and reinstating vehicular access. Currently, the submission is at the consultation stage, and left unchallenged should be set to go ahead long after Fantasy Island's own scheduling plans.

Polls of Steel: 2007 Results

Five hundred and ninety two members of the roller coaster community posted their ballots this year in Mitch Hawker's Steel Roller Coaster Poll. The results are in, and unfortunately both Millennium Roller Coaster and Jubilee Odyssey ranked lower this year than last. Jubilee Odyssey down seventy nine places, ranking at a still respectable #209; still higher than Pepsi Max Big One. Millennium also fell down the chart, ranking at #230; down from #192 last year.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, for the seventh year in a row Superman Ride of Steel and Expedition GeForce both retain their high ranking positions at the very top of the chart respectively. Nemesis still scored highly in the vote, ranking at #6, down three places from last years vote.

Casino for Lincolnshire - Déjà Vu?

Casino for Lincolnshire - Déjà Vu?

A little over a year ago we brought you news that Lincolnshire won a bid for a casino in one of three areas within the region. Only months later, these plans were shelved, amidst fears of national gambling problems that might arise from the proposed super casinos. Now though, it looks like a casino project could be back on the cards as East Lindsey District Council have been given permission for a small casino license by the governments casino advisory panel.

Now there are four developers keen to take advantage of the license; Southview Leisure, Butlins, Fantasy Island and Coastal Land. The latter are those with the big idea to develop a pier complex on Ingoldmells sea front. Still if these plans go ahead it could be a big pay off for the area; a boost for both local employment and tourism.

Ingoldmells Pier?

Ingoldmells Pier?

The Ingoldmells sea front could be about to change since plans have been submitted, by Coastal Land Ltd, for a new pier. Don't expect just any old pier to be appearing anytime soon though, as the plans incorporate a number of modern features; including marina and IMAX 3D cinema. The triangular shape has been designed to shield the pier from wind, as well as including a wind turbine, solar panels, a cooling system that utilises sea water and wave power.

Intentions for the pier range from its use as a concert venue to bidding for it to be used as a casino as well as incorporating life guard facilities. Temporary themed attractions, amusements, cafes, bars and retail outlets are also planned to be included in the three tiered design of the complex. Find out more via the Skegness Standard.
