Absolutely Insane Closes

Absolutely Insane Closes

After 10 months of downtime, Absolutely Insane reopened after being freshly re-cabled earlier this year. 13 weeks on, Absolutely Insane is out of action once more as one of the first signs that the park is entering the winter off season. Recently the kart has been removed, and the weights have been put into place.

The extensive amount of downtime, caused by deliveries of the wrong parts from American based, thrill ride manufacturer, S&S, inevitably left the park with a major financial loss as one of their three big attractions was left out of action. The future of the ride is unclear, but the re-cabling shows promising signs for the future of the 240ft sky sling.

Sadly, the 2007 season is coming to an end, and this is only the first sign of the forthcoming winter off season. Watch this space for the latest Fantasy Island updates and discuss your experiences, memories, hopes and fears for the park on the Island Quest forums

Girls Aloud Meet Fan at Big Weekend

Girls Aloud took to the Big Weekend stage at Fantasy Island on Saturday night. Whilst there, they met six year old, Skye Banks, one of the popular, girl band’s biggest fans. Lawrence Davis, managing director of Conduit Leisure, arranged the meeting with Skye’s idols.

"We met Laurence before the concert and he said it would be possible to go through to meet the group," James Banks, Skye’s father. Along with her grandmother, and her two friends, Denver and Kennedy Perkins, Skye was asked by band members where she was from and how she was enjoying the show. Skye also received a signed photograph of the band. Her father added that "It is every young girls’ dream and Skye has mentioned the meeting to all the family when they have called."

Sue Banks said: "It was fantastic to meet them; Skye was so excited and is really looking forward to telling her friends when she returns to school. This event is a good thing for Fantasy Island and I hope they put more concerts on in the future." The event itself might not have attracted a large crowd, but certainly made one young girl very happy in making her dream come true.

Tower Gardens Pond Refilled

Anglian Water and Skegness fire fighters have been refilling the pond in the Tower Gardens. The supply was used in their effort to put out the fire that occurred two weeks ago in the Parade Complex on Grande Parade, Skegness. Carl Lawrence, manager of the Tower Gardens has been observing the situation since the fire, and is grateful for the supply being replenished. Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue have issued a statement that they’re happy to help, and will continue to do so until satisfactory levels are recovered in the pond.

Talking about Christmas

It’s that time of year again, well not quite, but Christmas is just around the corner and discussions have been taking place about the Christmas lights and celebrations in Skegness. It was proposed that the council should only pay for one large tree which would stand on Lumley Road whilst requesting businesses to purchase a second tree that normally stands outside the Hildreds Shopping Centre.

However, Coun Gary Ellis, admits to the council judging too soon, and says that both trees will remain for this year, and further decisions would be made in January next year. The Hildreds Shopping Centre, along with the local Hoteliers’ Association supports the town council in organising the Christmas lights and celebrations.

Traders Selling Illegal Goods Arrested

Traders Selling Illegal Goods Arrested

Action has been taken against the ongoing problem of illegal cigarette sales in Ingoldmells. A raid on Monday 27th August by HM Revenue and Customs resulted in two gangs being broken up as they were selling the illegal products on a makeshift table on Sea Lane. Three individuals were arrested as a second group fled from the scene; successfully being disrupted from selling to passers-by on one of the busiest days of the year for the resort.

1,920, potentially counterfeit, cigarettes and 2.7kg of hand rolling tobacco were seized on the day by Customs. The gang’s proceeds of approximately £1000 and their car were also confiscated by Police. It’s estimated that around £800 of duty had been lost as the gang had been selling smuggled produce.

The men arrested were interviewed at Skegness Police Station, and released pending an ongoing enquiry into the case. Signs around Ingoldmells Market make it clear that it is illegal to trade produce that hasn’t had full duty paid. Steve Hazell, a spokesman for HMRC said: "Anyone who thinks they are getting a bargain buying cheap cigarettes or tobacco might not realise this illegal trade damages honest businesses in the area, costs billions in lost revenue and lines the pockets of criminals instead of funding public services. If you are tempted to buy cheap smuggled cigarettes remember that you may be funding organized crime. Anyone with information on smuggled goods can contact our confidential hotline on 0800 59 5000."
